Cheap Flights to Porbandar, India from India

 

 

Porbandar holds a distinct place in the heart of many Indians because it is the birthplace of Mahatma Ghandi, leader of the Indian independence movement. From its origins as an important trading ports for merchants who did their trade with Africa and the gulf, this seaside Indian town is not a place many tourists flock too but has its own unique charm that many find inviting.

Although one cannot swim in most of the city’s beaches because of the rough seas, Porbandar has a number of interesting attractions to satisfy a visitor’s curiosity. Among these attractions are Kirti Mandir, the birthplace of Mahatma Ghandi, the Rokadia Hanuman temple, Rana Bapu's Mahal and the Bird Sanctuary. Visitors can look at a famous Ghandi image at the Gita Mandi. There are spots where beaches are calm and clean enough for tourists but it is not often that the government can ensure the cleanliness of these choice beaches. Chowpati Beach is one of the best beaches in Porbandar and has been developed with tourists in mind, with a row of sitting accommodations for tourists and a skating rink for children on the beachfront.

The city is served by the Porbandar Airport which was opened in 2008 and is located 5 km from the city center. Jet Airways offers daily flights from the city to Mumbai. Those flying in from Sura can take flights via New Delhi via Jet Airways or Air India. The city is accessible from the airport to the city center by rickshaw for about Rs 30. Flight bookings to and out of the city can be arranged with local tour agencies such as Thankys Tours and Travels.
