Playing a main role in India’s international trade, Kandla is in Gujarat’s Kutch District and is a seaport in the western portion of India. It is located in the Gulf of Kutch and is on of the west coast’s major ports. Constructed in the nineteen fifties, Kandla is the main sea port which serves India’s west after its partition from Pakistan left the Karachi port in Pakistan. With an average elevation of approximately three meters or nine feet, Kandla is geographically located 23.03 degrees North and 70.22 degrees east.

The facilities of Kandla include 11 berths for dry-type cargo in a creek which is sheltered that has a total length of 1987 meters. There is a port area inside which is totally custom bonded and is located within the fencing which is 185 hectares. 76.5 hectares are being developed further. There are 6 different oil jetties and 4 cargo moorings in the Harbour’s inner area for the handling of stream. There is also one mooring for deep drafts.

There are facilities for both loading and unloading for barges from the handling of stream and seventy private licensed barges that have competitive rates. There is also a very well developed network of roads that directly connect to the railway network and the national highway which connects to the broad gauge routes for trains that are being upgraded currently. Tourist attractions include Kandla’s Hindu Temple, the Ganhidham Windfarms, Gandi Dam and the Kandla Bar which is a channel in a stream.

Kingfisher and Air Deccan Airlines offer regular flights to Kandla. The shortest of flights with a Kandla stopover is Kingfisher Red or IT 3348 which makes its departures at 21:25 hours from the IGI Airport to reach the Kandla Gandhidham Airport at 7:30.
