Appropriately known as the “City of Temples,” Jammu belongs to the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir. The major attractions of Jammu, however, remain to be the scared shrines and temples. One such shrine is the Vaishno Devi. Located in Katra, the shrine is nestled on top of a hill 1,700 meters high, an appropriate homage to the Hindu mother goddess. Other popular locations include Purmandal or Chhota Kashi, an area which hosts many temples dedicated to Shiva and other gods and goddesses; the Manasbal Lake, which is 62 kilometers away from the city, where local and international tourists go on excursions; the Bahu Fort; and the revolving restaurant called “Falak,” at the KC Residency Hotel.
Jammu may be reached by plane, train and bus from Bangalore and from New Delhi. There are daily flights scheduled by India’s major airlines.
