Cali, which is short for Santiago de Cali, is a city that is located in the western part of Colombia and is known as the capital of the Department of Valle del Cauca. Cali is known as third largest city in the country, and it currently is known for being one of the fastest growing infrastructures in the region and was founded by Sebastian de Belelcazar in 1536.

The city boasts of a historic district which features historical churches such as La Merced and La Ermita. The churches have immaculately preserved centers, one of which is history’s most significant zone is the La Plaza de Caycedo which is the city-center and is surrounded by both modern and historical buildings such as the La Catedral, the El Edificio Otero and the El Palacio de Justicia. Other nearby churches includes the Iglesia de San Francisco and a municipal theater. Rich in parks, squares, museums and monuments, the city’s most symbolic sculpture is the Cristo Rey which is on top of a mountain. Another sculpture the city is known for is the Sebastian de Belalcazar as well as the Las Tres Cruces which is where the Cali people go to pay homage during the Holy Week.

Places of attractions include Granada which is Cali’s most bustling and traditional district and features boutiques, restaurants and clothing shops. La Sexta on sixth street should be next on the list as it belongs to what is popularly known locally as the pink zone or ‘zona rosa.’ Other attractions include Plaza de Cayzedo, parquet del Perro, Juanchito, San Antonio, Cali Zoo, Farallones de Cali and La Ceiba.

The airport that gives access to Cali is the Alfonso Bonilla Aragon International Airport which is located in Palmira City. It is the 2nd largest airport in terms of passenger traffic and offers both domestic and international flights. The airlines that service the airport are Copa Airlines, Aires, American Airlines and LAN Peru, among others which fly from around the globe to Cali.
